Photography - Portraiture - Composition - Digital Art

Hello everyone, thanks for joining the conversation. We can expect this to be exciting.

I have started this blog to share with the world ideas on photography and digital art. My passion is on people, so this blog will concentrate on people's photography, but will include all types of artistic and commercial photography, when we will discuss technical as well as conceptual factors. Let's get started.

The five key elements of photography: Light, Speed, Aperture, ISO, Composition.

Let's start the conversation speaking of light. Photography is more than anything about light, no light no image. In outdoor photography we have little control of light, it is what it is, here camera settings play an important role in getting photographs that impact. Depending on the time of the day and location, outdoor photography can deliver hard or soft edges and shadows. In general, the closer to noontime the harder the ages. Between 5:30am and 10am and between 5pm and 6pm, the edges soften. If you have planned your photos before the shooting session, then consider the time, so that you get what you are looking for. In indoors photography, we have more control of light and can play with it at will to enhance the key elements in our composition.

The picture below features Korean musician Hyeran Cho, posing indoors besides a window. Window light is my favorite because of the light and because indoors isolate us from the crowd. In portraiture, privacy is an important key to natural looks. In this photograph, I played with light and dark in a simple two-halves composition, animated by the vertical blue line on the lefthand side.
